The owners of this 1980s style estate house juggle hectic lives. He is a director for Clifton Coffee and his wife running a successful bespoke cake design company from home. The need for more space for a growing family, home business and spaces to entertain family, friends and business colleagues, this rear single storey extension transforms the house into a delightful space for all occasions.
What was a cramped lounge with inadequate sliding patio doors has become an open and well-connected space with a seamless flow throughout and has provided a much-needed integration with the outside by means of a raised deck and tiered and landscaped garden capable of entertaining 10-15 guests comfortably.
With a cantilevered roof the structure performs architectural gymnastics to give an ediface that hovers over the garden performing an act of gravity defying elegance.
As keen movie fanatics the owners wanted both a bright light space that could be closed down in the evening to give a home cinema experience. The glazed wall therefore has the ability to be not only shaded but providing black out to the living space with motorised, full height blinds.
Incorporating low energy LED lighting the addition minimises energy use whilst creating an elegant interior with parquet flooring throughout.
