As part of a larger development of commercial premises the business owner requested that his home for many years, adjacent to his business, be converted and extended to meet his growing needs. The result was the extension and alteration of the family home juxtaposed by two annexe’s.
The main house had poor headroom to the upper floor, a poor sense of flow and inadequately proportioned spaces. The proposed scheme raised the roof to give adequate bedroom accommodation to upper floors whilst the ground floor was reconfigured to create continuity and harmony. A kitchen and dining room extension was introduced to provided adequate space for entertaining guests and connected the garden to the rest of the house. A new entrance canopy was formed to celebrate arrival and provide shelter for waiting visitors and timber was adopted to soften the proposal whilst accentuating prominent features.
The two annexes as an addition to the home provided a self contained crash pad for visitors and extended family members and a live work unit well suited for current patterns of hybrid working.
